Replacing holes in my lawn

For the last year I've been mowing my lawn fairly regularly, chopping any weeds with the blades of the mower.

After letting the grass grow for a while I was quite horrified by how weeds seemed to have taken over. There must have been about 50 in total just on a small front lawn. I decided just to use a tool that pulls the weed out at the root and did this until I saw no more weeds.

Only problem was that my lawn was full of holes. I filled it back in with top soil and sprinkled something called patch magic on it. I'm not really sure if that's the best thing since it's nothing like the consistency of the existing soil.

Any ideas? Shall I just wait and see if grass grows or do something else?

  • Have you tried filling the holes with off cuts of grass from elsewhere on the lawn.

I did this when cat pee killed small areas in my lawn.

Its similar to laying turf on a small scale, after a week it knitted in great and cost nothing.
