sowing seed for next year

I have been in my new house for approx 4 months now and would like to start sowing hardy annuals for next year however, the huge problem I'm worrying about is 1 neighbour has 2 cats and the other side has about 6!!! they are always in and out of our garden, pooing etc. what can I do to deter them and also to protect my seeds when sown?

Thanks philippa! I dont have a cold frame yet but have just received my new greenhouse. I thought it was better to sow them in the soil outside instead of pots??

The water scarecrow. Wish I'd bought one the minute I moved in here.

Would have saved me a fortune and countless hours of faffing with other things....

not to mention the endless stabbing of myself with bamboo skewers.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
