Figs in a container

We brought a small fig tree (Brown Turkey) and had the grand total of 4 ripen last year!  This year the first lot just dropped off but we think the cold spring did for them.  Now we've another crop of about 20 which are getting big but we are a bit concerned that now in September they may not ripen.  We shall see!  My main problem is I've checked out several sources and there's quite a lot of conflicting advice around about watering (don't do very often through to doing regularly in Summer) to feeding (don't feed at all through to feed regularly all Summer) to ensure the fruit doesn't fall off etc....

Can anyone simplify what's best for my young tree, which stands about 5ft tall in a large pot in our south west facing garden

I treat mine like a large, green tomato plant. Water regularly in summer and feed every week or two. In winter don't let the plant get waterlogged. I lost one plant to that a few years back so now I stand the pot on bricks so that the winter wet doesn't kill it off. Or to put it another way, it needs decent drainage.
