Hoorah for the Paralympics

Respect to all the athletes. Hope we see some good sport. Loved the earlier Olympics so am looking forward to this.

Just saw the clip of the torch bearer taking a tumble. I liked how fast help was there, but also how quickly they disappeared into the background again once she was back upright.
She was marvellous! So unfazed by the fall. But what about the wheelchair ski jumper who came down the 'ice' slope, through the ring and then did a flip? My heart did a flip just watching that brave display. I am never going to moan about my arthritic joints any more!
A big Norn Iron cheer for Beth Firth. Gold medallist and World Record Holder in Rio in 100m backstroke!
Well done Beth.
She's the wee sister of a young friend of mine so I'm a bit biased!

Whoop whoop Beth!
I find some of the groups confusing. I know each group is supposed to be equal disability, but I watched a butterfly swim race. 5 had one arm, one had no arms, and the winner had two arms., that both seemed to work properly.
I also find it heartbreaking, that the reason we have so many brilliant para athletes is the fact that many of them had bits blown off , "peace keeping" in the middle east. I think I would have given up long before. The problems that these have overcome humbles me.
I find that too fidget. And if their condition changes/improves they can recategorise (did I just make up an Americanism?
). All very baffling. GB 1 & 2 is the main thing!
I listen to the radio commentary so I can't see who has what and it's very exciting.
It is indeed humbling.
Possibly the person with both arms had more weakness in the legs. I do agree though that the groups can seem very confusing.
I watched some of the track cycling today. I'd seen cyclists with prosthetic legs before but today there were a couple of cyclists with just one leg and no prosthesis. Incredible to see them putting in amazing times. I know the bikes are fixed wheel but the effort required to get started and retain balance must be immense.
