Polytunnel irrigation.

Hi guys.

I'm looking to find an irrigation system for my tunnels without breaking the bank.

They're both 21ft wide and one is 48ft long, the other 56ft.

I'm happy to have a go at a Heath Robinson diy affair or adapt a system to fit, but I can't afford super duper high tech computer controlled affairs.

Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

Devon.

Could you use a perforated, bog standard hose and a timer attached to the tap Hosta? I  think timers are relatively easy to obtain and not too expensive...image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I was thinking overhead to get it out of the way and allow for tall stuff " getting in the way"

Maybe such a thing does not exist on my budget.image

The hozelock micro irrigation system has been reduced at Wyevale. My mum has used one of these for years for the greenhouse tomatoes, and the multiple hanging baskets around the place. Her tunnels are considerably shorter than yours but the side of the bungalow is quite long, around 50ft, so the longest length goes around 70 ft I think.

  • Lots of secondhand plastic overhead irrigation pipes at different sites throughout the village here, cheap, as more nurseries are flattened for ' development '.   I think they are 10 ft lengths with spray nozzles every 4 ft

Are you using mains or is it have you a surface water tank you can fix a pump on to ?

My greenhouses are 120 ft long, I bought a secondhand electric pump and a 2000 gallon water tank, the pump will water thoroughly  4 x full length spray lines in about 5 minutes. Plenty of smaller pumps available.
