Dying conifer hedge

Please help. I don't want to loose our hedge. Suddenly this year imageit has gone brown in lots of places. It gets pruned once a year in sept and is due it's next one in a few weeks, unless I am advised otherwise? 

I have investigated quickly and thought it may be because of bugs infestation, when and how it's pruned? It can't be because it needs water surely? What are people's thoughts?? Has anyone else recovered from this? Many thanks!

    Thanks so much for your advice. Not great to realise it can't be recovered but think I knew that deep down. I thought conifers were easy to look after but this case doesn't seem So! You are right that it has happened quickly over the summer.

    Any ideas why we get this disease?
