Tree for very large pot
I have just bought a very large pot 86cm in diameter and nearly as tall (50% fibre, 50% clay so frost proof). Can you recommend a large tree that would survive well if kept in an open area of the garden, not too windy south/East facing.

Hi carmenandjohn. Large Japanese Acers are happy to grow in pots. You could grow a fruit tree or a columnar Yew such as Standishii.
What do you mean by large?
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
The tree PF...the tree!
Sorry pansyface.....
I did mean the tree....
Some people would think a fifteen foot rowan was big, but they also might mean a Scot's pine at 100 feet....
In the absence of the OP replying - one of the birches would be nice I think
or a rowan

An olive tree if you are in the south?
There's one of those people staying here at the moment PF. I patiently explain over and over that I can't see the pictures in her head!! It seems that they're all called Margaret too!
An amelanchier would be lovely or a Eucryphia.
Depends if you want blossom, fruit or for it to be evergreen.
That's certainly a decent sized pot, but a large tree ie. something tall will still potentially be extremely unstable in high winds.
What colour and shape is the pot? What else do you have growing near where you want to put it? Can you be bothered to water it frequently?
The best thing to do is find a garden centre and pick out one or two that you like and then work out if they're suitable. Obviously we can recommend trees all day long but it can be somewhat futile without more information.
