dahlia, glads, begonias
Hi there,
A friend of mine just gave me some bags of dahlia, gladiola and begonia roots that they got from a garden centre clearing out. Considering that it is September and I live in zone 5, is there anything I can do with them to keep them alive for next year?
Thank you!

Hi katt. The fact that you talk about Zone 5 leads me to believe you live in the US. This is a UK based forum and our members live in the UK and Europe. Over here I would store all the corms and tubers in a cool dry frost free place until Spring. Once winter is over the Begonias can be placed in seed trays - hollow side upwards - in good compost until growth can be seen and then they can be planted into pots. Similar treatment for the Dahlias but with the remains of any stems pointing upwards until growth is seen. The Gladioli corms can go straight into the garden when all danger of frost is passed.
