Sounds to me as if the person you engaged to do the job 'subbed it out' to someone else ... your 'contract' is with the person you hired, not the person they hired - go after the first chap.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Got a message from him today. Apparently he let himself in my garden at 7:30 this morning and said he popped round to have a look and said it's nice and green and looks well. I messaged him when I got the message at 9 saying did he not notice all the patches of dead grass and he said he will be doing no more, he never made any money out of doing the job for us and he will be doing no more.
Guess it wasn't a good deed he was doing for us then and I'll have to put it down to experience ?
I think you may have to let the good people here help you instead. I'm sure it can be resolved reasonably easily. That's probably your best approach to avoid giving yourself any more stress about it.
A little bit of grass seed sown in the bare bits will make a difference. Watering is key to getting grass established, so if you don't have a decent amount of rainfall in the offing, and have access to a hosepipe, I'd get that on the barer bits to see if they can be revived first.
If you can post a pic of the site that will help us with advice too Grandad Al.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
