Potato question--purple on skin

I grew potatoes by accident so I don't know what variety they are.  They originally came from a big 10 Kilo brown bag from Tesco.   The ones I grew don't look so much like the ones from the shop, which had a browner skin, more like the Russets I was used to from the US.  What's grown has a very thin pale skin but it has bright purple covering half the potato--just on the skin.    Are these safe to eat?   I had one and it tasted a bit tangy but that may have been my imagination.

Hi watery. Some potatoes are naturally purple skinned so there shouldn't be any problem. If they have gone green at all it is best to cut all of that away prior to cooking.

image  Thanks for the reassurance.    I'm thinking next year I will actually choose varieties and do it intentionally.  (Watch... they'll get blight or something!)
