Looking after strawberry plants in winter

Hi

l have suspended two soil pipes horizontal and cut holes in them on top about half way up I have drilled a few drain holes.

i have planted about twenty plants this year and have religiously removed the runners and flowers as advised for a healthy crop next year.

the plants are looking very well however with them being suspended should I take them down in the winter months and perhaps store in the garage or perhaps cover up with a clear sheet to keep the frost etc off.

Also how do I feed/water throughout the winter? I live in Sheffield so we often get snow

Thanks in advance

Dave

I'd sit them on the ground, but no need for frost protection.

As their roots don't have a huge amount of soil round them, I'd keep an eye on it to make sure it's not drying out. Rain should see to it though.

    Devon.
  • Many thanks for that. I'll suspend them again in the spring
