hidcote lavender

I have a huge hidcote which is 18 years old....last year I pruned it as usual in August....but I was wondering if I should cut back in Spring as it went a little woody and didnt green up until June time????? Yes maybe I cut back too hard...dont think so though...advice appreciated. x

Sounds like it to me Nut, 18 is very old for a lavender, in my experience.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Yes it is old...but when do I cut it back as it is still in flower...be it they are past their best....Just need to know when to prune!
