Replanting cactus
I need to replant a cactus as it has outgrown its pot. Is there a best way to handle it and is there a recommended way and soil type to put it in?
thanks

It needs really gritty soil. it has to be free draining or the plant will rot. I repotted a load that got dumped on me last year. They were in pure builders sand, with no drainage. I put them in clay pots with gritty compost, fed them and watered in summer. In winter they went into a cold conservatory, and kept almost dry. Three of them flowered this Spring. They are currently out for the summer. They will come in soon before the frosts .
To handle, make a collar around it with several layers of newspaper, and wear thick leather gauntlets.
10 months after repotting.
Many thanks for this, I'll give it a go and hopefully show you it flowering next year.
thanks again
