What plant is this?

I am very inexperienced at gardening. I have a plant in a pot that hasn't flowered this year although it has previously. The plant climbs a trellis behind it fastened to the wall. It has never been pruned

I have attached some photos. Please can anybody identify the plant and tell me how to get it flower?

Thank you.imageimage

    Hi Colin,

It's a honeysuckle and it's probably run out of food. You need a much bigger pot than that to keep a honeysuckle happy. The ground would be better and something else in the pot

  • Hi Nutcutlet,

Thank you for your help. Putting it in the ground isn't an option for me but a bigger pot certainly is. What should I feed it? and how often? Would it help to prune it? If so, how hard and when?

So many very basic questions, but I do appreciate the help.

Don't hesitate to ask any question here Colin. There's usually someone with an answerimage

Someone will answer the feeding question but I don't grow things in pots long term so I don't know.

Not something I'd put in a pot ideally Colin, but if you have no choice, try and emulate it's natural conditions.  image

I'd use a soil based compost, add a bit of blood, fish and bone when you plant it, perhaps add a bit of leaf mould or well rotted manure for bulk, and keep it well watered. A  mulch of bark, or something similar, to help retain moisture will help too  image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
