Sumac Garden Tree

Hi,

I planted a cutting of a Sumac Garden Tree in April and it was growing perfectly. I decided to move it in the 2nd last week of August(to a less sunny area) and it looks if it is dying. The leaves are drooping and curling up. I have watered it regularly and also given it a feed of Miracle Grow to no avail. Any ideas?

  • You've probably damaged the root digging it up.  Keep it moist and it might survive if you're lucky. It might be best to pot such things until they've gotten established...

Shrubs can't take that in summer unless you're very careful in deed. Enough water, but too much is as bad as not enough. Don't feed any more, a plant needs to be growing to use food.

  • Verdun, no please say it isn't true????

I planted 3 in an area of my garden last year

  • I love them and have read all the horror stories about them.

Could I plant mine in a giant pot buried in the ground? I have a "bit" that has a kerby thing round it but I don't know how deep the kerb goes and would worry about escapage into the lawn.

    A different irish gardener. ;-)

I'm slowly trying to clear my forestation! Think it will be a long challenge. The ones in the pics are on both my side of the boundary and the outside. They're coming out this winter and then I'll be targeting the inevitabke proliferation of suckers.
