Honda Mini-Tiller

What ho one and all,

I have recently bought a Honda FG110 mini-tiller and must admit that I am very impressed and pleased with it.

Since it was bought from an internet site, it is not so easy to get questions answered as they just retail it, they don't use it.

It starts easily and the motor picks up speed when I engage the lever, but it can take quite a few seconds before the tines start to rotate.  They rotate with less delay when the engine is warm, but when cold, even though the revs are at operating speed, nothing for quite some time.

I know it has a centrifugal clutch, but is this sort of time lag par for the course?

Toodle pip and thanks

Rex

The delay is normal.  I have a Mantis tiller and that needs to warm up before the tines will rotate.  Interestingly, nothing in the handbook to say so but I bought mine from a local garden machinery specialist and they gave a full demo.

Another reason why specialist suppliers can be better value (if more expensive) than box shifters.

Thanks, that is good to know.  i did approach the local dealer but he would not give me the financial wiggle room that the on-line dealer offered.

Also, I wanted the digging tines which the on-line retailer had; the dealers attitude was, if it is not in the catalogue, then we don't' sell it.  Interestingly, digging tines are on most US web sites and when i opened the box, it says, manufactured in the US for the FG110 mini tiller.

    Go figure!

  • Mine's the old Eko 2stroke, you've got to let it warm up fist then the revs take over. They put the Honda 4stroke in now. I've had mine 20 years, great machine.

With that attitude I'm not surprised you bought on lineimage  My experience of a dealer couldn't have been more different.  We also bought a petrol mower from the same place.  They actually steered me away from some of the more expensive models saying that I really didn't need xyz, and that they were really designed for heavy professional use.  I bought a Honda model, which still ain't cheap but they could have got a lot more money out of me if that was their only interest.
