Please can anyone identify this plant that I dug up yesterday ? Hopefully the photo is good enough ! It has quite ribbed leaves & apparently the flowers are on stalks, are purple & look a bit like agastache. Many thanks image

Its a bit difficult without the flowers but could it be a Nepeta e.g. Nepeta cataria?

Looks like Betony, Stachys officinalis. If it's purple it's probably the wild version, (there is a pink cultivated form) but none the worse for that. Bone hardy, flowers all summer, bees and butterflies love itimage.

    Sure it is Betony.

Thanks all. My plan is to split it and pot up until the Spring, so knowing what it is will really help !

    Thanks again image
