Please can anyone advise : I want to replace my lawns with low growing wild plants ie Thyme/ Red & White Clover / Chamomile/ etc any other suggestions and advice on how to go about it ?

I planted chamomile alonside a path (within the border) the year. 6 small plants, they spread really quickly and I am now going to dig up the grass under the apple tree and little by little will have a mow free lawn. I like the idea of other plants too.
The real problem will be getting rid of the weeds which will inevitably seed in it.
