Affordable planters

hi

my wife and I are planting out our back garden, and wanted to keep major plants in big planters. Looking for a contemporary look

The ones we've seen are too small and yet with big prices. Does anyone have good suppliers for affirdable (and good looking planters, probably plastic)?

thanks

Build one out of timber from a builders yard.

Or for the stone trough look, use two cardboard boxes and a bucket of concrete to make a trough (remembering to use an old bit of pipe to make a drainage hole) then paint the outside with watered down yoghurt. Give it a year or two and it'll look properly old (or crumble to dust, depending how good you are at concrete).

Or use the interlocking clay 'bricks' that use a glue rather than mortar - look up 'porotherm'.

We went to a builders yard and got some sewer / manhole cover squares - about £10 each, extremely heavy - place on the ground, dig soil and add compost inside,  open ground for the plants to grow in, they look like big containers, and cannot be stolen - what's not to love?  Can be painted with masonry paint.
