Plum baffled

Biggest crop ever this year on 10-year old Czar plum but covered in sunken areas (some circular), hard crystalised resin and a thin brown 'scab' marks. Skin is intact but looks like something is living inside.
Any ideas please as to what is causing the problem and whether plums can still be used to culinary purposes.
Hoped to be able to upload photos to back this up but can't see that ability.
