Pods on my magnolia tree

image

Hello!

I recently noticed some sort of a pod that had formed on most of the branches on my magnolia tree. Can anyone help me identify these? I removed one and it doesn't look like an insect!

thanks In advance!

Those are definitely scale insects Heather.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • A good crop of scale insects and the magnolia looks quite large it might be a major job to remove the scale. I find the only methods that work are take them off manually or brush mentholated spirit on them.
