yes, it's a eucalyptus, one of a huge number of species. I don't know which one that is

    In the sticks near Peterborough
  • Ah thankyou ? I'm a bit of a novice and found it slightly surprising I had a eucalyptus tree growing in my garden in Essex, I'm guessing it's not actually that uncommon? Lol

As nutcutlet says, it could be one of many species. The bark looks like my  E. perriniana, it is splitting like that at the moment, leaving a red bark underneath.

Yes there are lots of species but generally speaking only 2 are offered except by the more specialist growers which you would have to seek out, and only in recent times have these become available.  Most gardeners buying these over the last 20 years or so,  would probably plant one or other between 'gunnii' or 'pauciflora Niphophila', so chances are it can be whittled down to one or the other..

    Eucalyptus pauciflora ssp. 'Niphophila'

Adult foliage: shades of french blue/grey to olive green, becoming glossy. Sickle shaped or elliptical, 5-10 cm long and 1.2-3 cm wide, thick texture with parallel veins

Bark: One of its best features - smooth striking bone white to cream; peeling bark in seal grey, foxy red, olive green, copper and cream, sheds in ribbons from main branches and the trunk.

    See if that fits yours.
