How to screen a tiny front garden

The front garden of my end terrace is small, with a wall separating it from the road. I want to plant something reasonably fast growing along the wall which will eventually prevent passers- by from being able to see directly into the lounge. I would prefer some colour for at least part of the year and it would need to grow reasonably tall, as the house is slightly higher than the road.

A row of something like Amelanchier would work well M'smum. They don't get huge, but provide a light canopy and therefore won't create too much shade either. You only need something tall enough to stop people seeing in, so it doesn't really need to be that tall. My front room is similar, but people are looking up and often only see the top half of the room when going past. However, without knowing the distance from house to boundary, it's difficult to make other suitable suggestions.
I'm also wondering if, since the house is slightly elevated, it could also be simpler to have some decent window boxes if your sills allow. That would provide a low growing barrier that would be attractive from inside or out, and would give a bitof privacy. A few small evergreens for all year round colour, and you can add a few bulbs and summer planting as appropriate

A photinia hedge would give you year round colour.
have you thought about putting up one of those privacy window screen, then you'd still get lots of sun in the house.
A plant that tall is going to shut off your light.
