    Could well be Physocarpus opulifolius Diabolo or Lady in Red.

    Brilliant - thank you!! Have never seen it flower & it's looking a bit sorry for itself. Should it be pruned/cut back & if so, when? Thanks again!

    You can prune hard, in late Winter. Most people grow it for the foliage, rather than the flowers.
