Great to know that the machine has been a hit, Dove.
Mine might have to wait until I've completed some work on the hard standing down the side of our house--replacing old concrete with new flags--but all these recommendations are making me mighty keen for a bit of serious scarifying!
And thanks for the tip re not using additional fertiliser before reseeding, Verdun. Makes things a bit easier.
Hi all, may I ask how to oversow? I assume you mean scatter grass seed but what do I have to do to prepare the bed? Can I just throw seed down after scarifying or do I have to put a soil base down to allow it to 'take'? Thanks
I used to scarify regularly. Despite having fairly light soil I used to get a lot of moss. I did not use it with the box on as it filled up too quick. Used the lawn mower to pick up the moss. Used to do it in the spring and then reseed the worst bits. Now for the past two years I have had a lawn care company in. My grass has never looked better. They scarify in the spring with a huge scarifier and it makes a better job. I get four visits a year at 12 pound a visit. £36 to scarify.
