  • Who is Aiden Turner????

Bara Brith which is a favourite of mine is the Welsh version, you steep the fruit overnight in tea that gives a darker texture to the loaf. It was a family treat Joan would cook for them coming on Saturdays and would vanish with loads of real butter as P.P. says none of that nearly stuff ever came in this house. Now we read that nearly stuff was worse for you than eating Devon Scones with lashings of cream. Any of us older mob who well remember the horrors of Margarine could tell them that. Some of our family elders who came from Norn Iron would regale us with stories of such bread then stuff themselves with Joan's Welsh Cakes fresh from the oven and covered in butter. Then the youngun me had to play all the Irish songs on the piano whilst they got murdered by my peers, why do the Irish have to break into Danny Boy on every occasion, Uncle Peter O'Hagan could have stood in for a fog horn any time on our misty rocky coast. Happy days.

    Frank.

I just googled him. Not bad, but his chin is a bit pointy for my taste.

  • Lantana - a third of a cup of each - but it's the rest of the stuff that makes it savoury. image

Just going to slice up another load of cucumbers and green peppers to make yet another batch of cucumber relish - we're swamped with cumbers this year image

I thought Norn Iron meant non iron as in shirts. If I'm being honest I am non iron. Pull clothes straight on the line and that'll do. Why waste energy ironing!
