use old tom compost for strawbs?

Can I use the compost from this years tomatoes from in troughs of multi-purpose compost to plant my strawberry runners into?

    All the nutrients will have been exhausted by the toms so use it as a mulch on a watered bed or as a soil conditioner but not as a planting medium.
