Mass slugs

Can anybody out there please tell me why overnight my parents garden was covered in patches of dead slugs, around 150 were picked up. There has been no use of slug pellets or any other forms of control. The slugs were in the middle of a gooey wet patch with some just laying dead on the lawn on there own. It would be good to know if the mystery could be solved. Thanks Nigel.

Perhaps your neighbour chucking them over your fence?
Belive it or not I really have no idea, the slugs were not just on side of the garden but spread over the entire garden . The garden is about 200ft long and 40ft wide. The person who lives one side is in her late 80 s and has gardeners come in once a fortnight due to the fact she is not mobile. The people who live the other side are not the slightest bit interested in gardening. The house at the bottom of the garden has a garden just as long as mine so I would be surprised if they could throw them that far.
