    Hello Stephen image

Can you tell us more about this flower bed please?

How big is it?   Is it up against a wall?  Which way does it face?

Is the soil clay or gritty?

Could you post a photo please?

  • Hi Stephen the soil in my front garden here in Derbyshire is clay but a few years ago I imported

a load of topsoil which greatly improved it. As my front garden is large most of it is lawned with

beds of mainly shrubs that do not mind a water shortage.

If your front is only small compost will help and grit is always good but some soil types do dry

    quicker than others.

Last year I planted some daffodil bulbs in the centre bed with great results but had to keep them

watered on dry spells. My front garden is south facing so drying out is always a problem.

We do not have a hosepipe ban this year so watering in the evening is also an option.
