Thanks all. It's now repotted I threw some bonemeal as well figuring it couldn't make it worse. I have also cut it right down so it's just two thick stems poking out the top. Not sure if I've done it right but I am sure I will find out at some point. I didn't know though whether I might have been better putting it in the ground so he roots aren't as constricted as they will be in the pot?

Cut off any unhealthy looking shoots. Repot it in new compost and "watch and hope."
Put the pot out of the very hot sun (if we get any more this year). Its surprising what might come up.

There do seem to be quite a lot of healthy roots on there. Have you tried sprinkle of Mycorrhizal Fungi to give the roots a boost?
