There is no doubt gardening can be therapeutic. It was interesting to hear how gardening helped Monty Don with his depression. I can imagine it helping with bereavement also. I'm envious of anyone who can grow hostas. a neighbour of mine has a fine display in his front garden and there isn't a slug bite to be seen and no sign of the use of pellets! I'm sure I haven't a clue how he does it.
It's magic HH - sure he's not outside every evening with beer (for the slugs) or a torch and popping them off one by one. It is maddening isn't it when someone so effortlessly produces the most amazing plants (or cakes for that matter) whilst we fumble around on the edge of perfection and never actually reach the centre target. Keep trying and have fun at the same time, that's what I say.
In my defence (!!!), I'm nearly 61 and this is absolutely the FIRST hosta I've ever managed to get past the first night without it looking like net curtains ! Honest guv, I don't sneak out with a torch in the early hours to pick off the slimey Critters. For some reason they just don't venture into that tiny part of the garden.
I'm looking forward to getting a couple more next year, especially a 'blue' one.
I'm not a huge fan of Hostas, although planting them in galvanized tubs does seem a good way to try to beat the old slimy slugs. I just have to look at a hosta and it makes me THINK slug which isn't a nice thought at all.
That's ok . Thanks Joyce. I wanted to make sure it wasn't just me.
I've reported it to the mods/techs. I can get one if I click on the thread title and three if I go to "latest post" but I can't go back or forward from them to two.
I had it on another thread last night too but I can't remember which one.
