Leave the flower heads on over winter to protect the buds below them from the winter weather, then cut the dead flower heads off in May and the new growth will start to appear.

They're preference is shade Jackie, so your 'sunny' one will tend to go over quicker. Make sure they have plenty of water - especially if the site's sunnier.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
