Hollow courgettes

Some of my healthy looking courgettes are actually hollow.  There is no sign of any pest damage.  Does anyone know what may be the cause?

My feeling is that it could be erratic watering or two much fertiliser or a combination of the two.

I've just had a google and this suggests similar causes, along with inadequate pollination

Thanks Dove, probably down to watering.  Since we went to metered water I try not to use too much.

I know the feeling ... the soil's very free-draining here and although I've been working at incorporating lots of organic matter since we came here, I've had to use the sprinkler and the seep hose on the veg patch and the Shady Bank (herbaceous border) quite a few times just lately.  We've not had any rain to speak of for over a month ... but other people spend money on all sorts of other things  like hobbies and luxuries... I spend some of mine on the garden image
