Hebe Margret all dried up

Hi there I have a quick query about hebe Margret. I thought they were evergreen?

It finished flowering and has now the leaves have all gone dry and brown. I had repotted it late - after flowering but now it's all in new fresh compost. Anything I should do or just leave it?

Are the roots teased out wakeshine? Have you kept it well watered during the hot spells?  It's important to keep them watered well enough in a pot. A soil based compost is based for anything that's in a pot long term - ordinary compost will dry out very quickly.

They're pretty trouble free plants usually.

    Just seen the pic -

Alternatively - have you been overwatering? They need good drainage in pots - are the holes blocked?

Yes I think I put a mixture of soil based and multipurpose compost...I can't remember if I watered enough. It was at the back of the garden and I kind of forgot about it. It's all in fresh compost at the front now so I won't forget. Are they supposed to go like this, or are they evergreen?

Oh sorry I didn't answer your question about the pot or the roots. Well the pot has good holes in it yes and I put lots of stones into it for drainage. I think I actally added a bit of sand or perlite too for drainage. It's definitely not been overwatered!!

Yes I definitely teased out the roots as I always do this when repotting, especially if the plant is pot bound, which this had been I think.

    I hope it's not dead!!

If it was at the back of the garden and you forgot about it - it maybe that it's been shaded out by something else too. Plants will dry out very quickly in pots.

It should be looking something  like this

Oh dear. It did flower back there though. There was sun where I put it, not all of the back of my garden is in shade. What variety of Hebe have you got please? Do you think mine has died then?

Oh dear. Thanks Nutcutlet. I'm rather sad now. Not because it was £6.99. I think I left it too late to repot it. It did put lots of goodness in the pot thinking it would revive. It had beautiful little purple flowers on it before it died. Rest in peace Hebe Margret.
