Think nut is right - looks like a herbaceous paeony, so you should be fine. If you're worried about the stems breaking at this stage, you could carefully push in a few canes outwith the rootball, and a few turns of string to make a little cage support, just to keep the stems in place till it gets established.
They can be quite top heavy anyway so that will relieve the pressure until the roots catch up with the top!
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Thank you fairy girl. That's a fab idea and I will do that just to create a little more protection over the following months. I have 3 cuttings that I have planted (rose, buddliea and peony) they are all so young but growing so well at the mo. I will be gutted if they don't get through the winter. It would be a real achievement for me to successfully grow these babies!! Thanks again
I have three similar one and have never grown paeonies before. They look pretty much the same size as yours so fingers crossed let's see if we get flower next year. I have a feeling they won't flower next year but maybe the one after. There is a programme on iplayer about paeonies which I found very helpful.
Well there was, it was the Great British Garden Revival.
i watched that programme lastnight. I didn't realise there were so many varieties!! This one was given to me from a section of my mother in laws Peony.
I am worried a little more though as none of the young ones in that show look like mine and there appear to be only the two stems growing from mine!! I know it won't do anything for a long while even if it does take so I will just have to wait now I guess. It's absolutely throwing it down here at the moment and it hasn't dropped and hit the ground so thats something!!!

There are only two stems on mine also I wouldn't worry they will rest over the winter then start growing new ones.
