Clematis Wilt: Ernest Markham

Hi everyone!!

I have a flowering Ernest Markham (4 flowers so far!) clemati, but it appears to have now developed the dreaded clematis wilt!! Whilst sadly I know this culitvar is prone to this affliction, I was als wondering if anyone had any tips for treatment?

Root wise, it's shaded behind a large fuchsia and it's training well at 18months old.

Many thanks!

  • What makes you suspect clematis wilt ?

What makes you think Ernest Markham is prone to wilt ?

Have you treated it as Group 3 ?

Pruned it back to the floor in Spring ?

I think the 'large fuchsia' will take a lot of water away from it  too Mark. That would certainly make it wilt - I'd doubt it was more than that

As Richard has said before, and he is a proper Clematis expert, Clematis wilt is quite rare, always think about other causes first.
