Which fruit tree?

I've got 3 big pots built into a strip of ground against a west facing wall. It is REALLY windy here, especially north west which can be cold. I'm in Devon, which you might think is palm tree country, but at 200m above sea level, so definitely NOT palm tree country.

I was thinking maybe dwarf pears - I'd like edible fruit ideally (as opposed to ones that need cooking). We've got enough apples.

Greengages?

Figs are tough - would they survive a cold blast in the winter?

Cherries grow well round here but the walls are home to flocks of sparrows so I couldn't net the trees and would basically be providing them with breakfast in bed.

Any other ideas?
