This is a representative 'flight' of Team Spuggie at their favourite feedingpost outside my kitchen. On times we have up to a dozen adults & youngsters; dashing in & out of the foliage (just out of camera) - taking it in turns to cling to the feeder or the roughcast wall to wait their turn! *Principal feedstuff is whole peanuts with a relatively fine mesh - I believe this is key as the birds cannot obtain whole nuts, only fragments. Two similar feeders are maintained throughout the summer at widely-spaced locations near shrubbery elswhere in the mid-terrace garden.
A managed woodland I walked recently had huge signs up in their feeding areas stating that they don't feed come fledging time so that the baby birds learn to feed "independently". I feed throughout the year (I have pigeon proof feeders which encourages them to mop up the mess of seeds on the floor) and notice a natural drop of feeders in the warm months.

Not sure how true it is, but I remember reading not to put whole peanuts out during nesting season as the babies can choke on the peanuts!
It's true Laura.
Seconded!
What a super picture David. Thank you so much for sharing it.
