    It took me more like 5 years of work to get our clay soil anywhere near workable enough for veg. And then we moved house image

    Horseguards' Paradeimage

    I tend to improve the soil in patches around where I want to plant something. I use spent potting and my own compost. It would be impossible to do the whole garden.

    Dove, I think Pat' s reasonably safe.  Some wisps / whisps (how do you spell that?) of steam emerged from the cracks when the water hit the earth' s core.
