Fig Tree

I managed to find a brown turkey fig tree early this year and put it into a largish pot.

its gone mad! it came with one fig on it about the size of a 50 pence piece which promptly dropped off a couple of weeks after planting it.

i now have very rapid growth and 14 baby figs, is there anything i should be doing (i.e). feeding it keep it dry keep it wet keep it sunny or shaded?

i love it and want to make sure i care for it properly and get a good harvest

Just treat it like any other plant in a pot. Keep it well watered but not wet (they do not like to be waterlogged) and feed it regularly just as you would tomatoes. They can put up with a fair bit of wind and a lot of sunshine. The baby figs might not ripen outdoors although I had a small crop off the outdoor tree last year. The almost certain way of getting a fig crop is to keep the plant under glass.

I take cuttings late summer so that I have small plants to crop in the greenhouse over the next one or two years by which time the plants are ready to go outside and the whole cycle starts again.

At the end of September remove all unripe figs, with the exception of small ones no bigger than a hazel nut.  You leave these on the tree over winter, they will start to grow in the spring and will ripen in the summer.

This is the best way to get fruit from outdoor figs in the UK, as otherwise the growing period isn't long enough for the fruits to form and ripen.

Where does the immature fruit appear? I tried Google images but can't see properly. Do they come from the leaf axils?
