Growing Nyctanthes arbor-tristis in the UK

After many failed attempts to germinate Nyctanthes arbor-tristis, this year finally one started growing.  Its now about a feet height. Considering UK's weather I guess my only option is to keep it growing small (like a bonsai) keeping it inside the house although I would love to grow in in my garden.

Now that the root started to come out of the pot, I don't know what I should do so that it lives.  Would appreciate some ideas. Thanks

I would gently turn it out of the pot to see how filled with roots that plant pot is. Those coming out of the drainage hole could just be 2 extra long roots. If the pot is quite full of roots then it will need to go into a larger pot. If it is still reasonably empty of roots I would put the plant back into the pot. What a pity you will never see this in its mature form. Ideally it should be growing in the ground.

Thats a shame.  Thank you.  Oh, can I plant it in the garden, cover it with something to protect it from cold weather?

You could leave it outside in the Summer - when it finally decides to put in an appearance - but it will never survive an English Winter even with protection unless you have a heated greenhouse or conservatory.
