    Just to expand on @greatnorthernexotic ‘s advice if I may 😊 … that means ‘cut the sideshoots back to two buds … not cut the whole plant back to two buds!

    Yes, @ritaheal.  It would be much better off in the ground where it will have access to more root space and thus nutrients and moisture.  If you plant it out now you'll need to water it well before and after planting and make sure it doesn' go thirsty all thru its first growing season.

    Make sure you have a sturdy structure along which to train the stems and then follow the 2 and 7 pruning rule - taking sideshoots back to 2 buds in Feb and 7 in July.   The RHS website has good info on growing and pruning wisteria - https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/wisteria/growing-guide
