Thanks 8000 I am looking forward to seeing the finished result, but there is a lot of work, decisions and luck (what will we find under that scruffy grass/weed) and a few bob to go before we can enjoy the desired water way.
I have just watched a good 30 minutes of the making a pond video link that Lucid recommended and yes it is very helpful, full of demonstrations and ideas to help us on our way.
Hi there, thanks to all who posted pics of their ponds, water holes, bathtubs ... lakes! I'm interested in creating not a pond but a so-called "artificial brook" in my garden. Something like max. 10m long by 50cm wide, slight slope, water pump at lower end to pump water up to higher end. And with plantations on either side, for a total of approx. 2m wide or more.

There are quite a few examples of such construction on the Internet, e.g. http://www.familyhandyman.com/landscaping/backyard-waterfalls/build-a-backyard-waterfall-and-stream/view-all
But I would like to hear from fellow forum members who have created their own "brook"/"stream", to exchange views. TIA.
