Please help me figure out what's happening.

Hi guys,

I really hope you can help me.

I have tiny tiny holes appearing on the top and on the underside of my delphinium leaves. It is on all of them and it's even on my clematis and a few other plants. Tiny holes appear in clusters but after a while, patches appear where the leaf starts dying and then goes brown! I cant see any tiny bugs but around the area I did notice tiny brown/black shiny marks. There are usually only a few of them but there are hundreds of holes and he problem is getting worse every day!

can anyone please identify the problem and tell me how to stop it? imageimageimageimage

Thanks verdun. Do you think they could be flea beetles? I have been researching the symptoms on the Internet and the picture show the same tiny holes in the leaves and also says about brown spots near the the holes which is their waste?

The only difference is it says they are little black beetles that jump when disturbed but I haven't seen a single one.  With the huge number of plants affected I would have thought i would of seen one by now.

Are systemic insecticides available in garden centres? Could you possibly recommend one that I could buy off the shelf so I can start treating them straight the way. Thank you for your help :)

May well be thrips. Most of the off the shelf stuff is suitable.

Great I will go get some tomorrow and see if I can stop the spread.

My garden has that much disease I also need to post a new thread tomorrow on another issue!

If it was flea beetle you'd see them jumping when you disturb the foliage and they prefer tender leaves on seedlings.

you'll never achieve a natural balance of pest and predator if you go the chemical route.

yes we would let mother nature heal an open wound.image

Your opinion is your opinion Verdun and you are entitled to that.

But opinion is not fact and CraighB needs to hear other opinions in order to make an informed choice.

My opinion is that holes in delphinium leaves in August is no big deal compared to the death of all the beneficial insects that would have sorted it out for you over the coming years.
