Garden arbour

Hi folks I know this is not a gardening question is there any competent d i yers out there I have watched u tube on how to build a garden arbour the sizes he gave were posts 75x75 that's the easy part got them he gave sizes 2x10 or 2x8 for headings 2x6 for rafters now I have contacted various timber merchants and they don't have a clue what I am on about I have also gave them the wood in mm still no joy can anyone point out where I am going wrong.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Has he perhaps switched from Metric to Imperial? When you say you gave the timber merchants the measurements in mm did you just think in inches and then do the conversion to Metric?

    Hi Wills

the YouTube post must have been American as that's how they discuss timber in sizes small first

In English it would be 8x2, 10x2 this would be in inches so just convert to metric and ring timber supplier and they will understand example for 8x2 would be 200x50mm

    Good luck

That was my first thought Chris - but that's quite substantial timber to attach to 3 inch posts. I'd be inclined to use 4 inch posts  if I was using 8 or 10 inch timbers across them.
