I assure you they are real I picked the first one and put it in some water thinking it was a one off but this morning I have noticed another on the same plant. I joined this site to see if anyone has ever seen it before especially a plant re-producing the flowers like this...
I bought 5 plugs aswell, but this pack is the only source of other cosmos the plugs are all well developed now, but this plant is at the back and smaller, so i presume its a hatched seedling

I love Cosmos, but to have one like yours ryan would be the icing on the cake - wow! Did you sow them as seeds? What is the name of this Cosmos?

Thanks Guernsey yes they were all sown as seeds, they were bought from Ebay, I am 99% confident that it came out of a pack of the butterfly mix of these on Ebay link: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262475283243?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

if the next bud shows the same trait ill upload a pic with it in the next few days
Fascinating - but I'm not sure I'd want a lot of them.
I've noticed similar things with flowers on occasion over the years, but noting as distinct as you have.Maybe some sort of genetic mutation.
