I nearly choked on my cornflakes
I was reading the on-line version of our local newspaper when I came across this -
"The defendant was known to the victim. Mr ..... ran a small drug dealing enterprise with his son and would often sell small quantities of cannabis to ...........
The court heard how the victim Mr ..... would buy bulk quantities of cannabis for approximately £1,000 and then his son would divide the drugs up into smaller quantities for resale."
I'm not suggesting for one moment that the victim deserved what happened to him, but the description of him makes it sound as if he was running some kind corner shop, or doing a public service. He was drugs dealer pure and simple, and a fairly large scale one at that.

This stuff should be legal then it could be taxed and we would all benefit.
All except those that go psychotic after using it.
Legalise it and it can be studied openly and easily and any bad side effects can be documented properly. The present system does not work.
my husband always said it should be legalised but make the users sign away any rights to NHS care. Drug users cost the health service a fortune and the money should be used on treating people who get ill through no fault of their own.
Linda, I assume you feel the same about those that drink and eat excessively?
I do wish people would learn something about the subjects they preach!
I suggest if people are interested in facts not fear then study Uruguay and Colorado and many other of the states in USA that are following suit and seeing the benefits.

Quite so Wonks. Drink's the biggest legalised drug there is - and it's abuse is one of the biggest drains on the NHS, and that doesn't include the additional costs of it's effects on others. Don't know the figures but I'd hazard a guess that it's a good bit more than the costs of what we think of as drug abuse...
No chance of the powers that be addressing that when they get such a massive income from it though....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
To be fair, it's Linda's husband who holds that view - Linda may well disagree with him - if I remember correctly, wives sometimes do
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I'm just surprised Fairy that on a gardening forum , people believe media fear and government bias and demonize a plant!
Working with epilepsy sufferers and people with MS, I have heard many interesting stories concerning the positive effect this NATURAL plant has.
The government could practically wipe out national debt if they legalised and taxed and regulated this valuable resource. Not to mention what it would do for the horticultural industry, the tourism industry, hospitality industry and pharmaceutical industry and not forgetting it would be taking the money from criminal gangs to reduce the powers of criminal networks.
Dove, good point!
WONKY sorry didn't make myself clear there, I meant all the drugs that are killing our young people and at the same time making the drug barons mega rich. And yes drink causes problems too I have seen that happen in my own family . Both create terrible heartbreak in families. Actually I don't know what the answer is, but I do wish there was one.
I agree Linda, it just appears that the solution we have doesn't work. People since the beginning of time have searched for an altered state as an antidote to stress of life, whether its a glass of wine after work, opium for the Egyptians of history, many examples. I've just been reading that crystal meth was used in Nazi German soldiers and now in N Korea to increase productivity of building labourers! Also just been reading that Britain has the highest transaction rate in Europe for drugs on the dark web. While more youngsters die due to high strengths and dodgey ingredients, I'm glad there are groups testing strengths and content of drugs at festivals etc and think that is a far more sensible approach than banning and punishing while prisons are so full and criminals make so much profit.
