Having issues installing wooden edging
Morning all
I'm currently trying to raise the height of my border to allow deeper more nutritious material to be thrown in.
It's currently very dry due to the border being dominated by large shrubs and two large trees quite close by.
I picked up a dozen of these over the weekend and I'm currently struggling to get them down to lawn level.

Any suggestions/tips on making this an easier exercise. I've been watering the three holes per piece in a vain attempt to improve depth that has worked to some degree. I'm currently using a mallet.
Had previously edged the lawn in preparation
Thanks
Craig

If there's no rain imminent, Craig, I'd leave a hose to soak the whole area for a day.
Also, use another piece of scrap timber between the edging and your mallet when knocking them in - less likely to damage the edging that way.
I'm personally not keen on these thing if they're not just for decorative purposes and are going to be holding back anything substantial. I'd concrete them in to make sure they're rigid enough to withstand the soil going into the bed.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
If you're planning to build up the soil to the top, or near the top of them, you will need to cement them in place or they will collapse forward under the weight of soil when the ground gets wet.
