More cuttings questions

Just been reading about taking cuttings and Spring in NZ on this forum and it made me think of my possible spring project. My daughter is still adding to her new garden and fell in love with a ceanothus bush/tree that overhangs the path to the Rec (dog walking route), she thinks I am v good with plants and asked if they were easy to grow.

If by some miracle a couple of bits fell off on to the path how hard would it be to strike a cutting? Has anyone any experience? Don't want to disabuse daughter's opinion that Mum is all-powerful image

I've never tried with ceanothus, but I remember a really good at gardening friend being dead chuffed at rooting a ceanothus cutting - she said they were really difficult.

    Don't think they're difficult to grow once you've got a plant tho/

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

Not very encouraging then Dove image  I have looked at other, older threads (although some seem to have bits missing?) and they are not hopeful either. Doesn't help that I might have a 'limited window of opportunity' so maybe a garden centre voucher for her birthday in case it doesn't work. My immediate neighbours would gladly offer cuttings at any time of year but this path goes through the more private, less accommodating area and I don't feel brave enough to ask.

I managed to get two cuttings to grow before my beautiful old ceanothus fell down. Patience was the key {I think anyway} as it took about a year before I was sure that they had taken. I attempted about 6 cuttings so 1/3 success rate does infer that they can be tricky! Nothing ventured nothing gained.

Give it a go. What have you got to lose?

Possibly my freedom Ceres if they see me 'picking up' cuttings image but I rarely refuse a challenge! Seems the miracle might have to stretch to several bits though................

I had no idea your laws were so harsh. Six years for taking a cutting or few?

Trouble is I'm unlikely to get any time off for good behaviour!  image

Maybe they will let you run the prison vegetable garden.
