I'm no expert but I got a new hydrangea in April and it was rootbound. It didn't seem very happy. When I repotted it in May into a bigger pot it perked up, also maybe because the sun came out. When repotting I loosened the roots a bit.
Alas I am back again- it's still drooping- how long should I wait before taking the next step. I read that pot bound plants need the rootball to be cut vertically to solve the problem.

i would cut off the flowers, this will focus the plant on rooting into the ground rather than flowering.
